Roma Prenestina, Roma

Roma Prenestina is the railway station before you, a working junction on rail routes toward Tivoli and Pescara. Its story begins with an earlier station, opened in 1887 when this district was still countryside; trains separated here for Termini or Portonaccio, now Tiburtina. The passenger building you see was designed by engineer Paolo Perilli and built between 1936 and 1938.

It entered service on 21 April 1939, replacing the older site. As Via Prenestina filled with housing in the decades that followed, the station remained awkwardly cut off from those new neighbourhoods. That changed when Via della Stazione Prenestina was completed in 2006, bringing parking and bus connections to the entrance. The station still marks a divergence between the Rome–Pescara route and the high-speed Rome–Naples line.
