Quintiliani, Roma

Quintiliani is a Rome Metro station on Line B, set on Via della Pietra Sanguigna in Pietralata. Its name preserves that of the old Casale dei Quintiliani, once nearby. The street-level entrance is deliberately spare: the station lies wholly underground, leaving only the stair parapets and the lift access visible above ground.

Its quiet appearance matches an unusual story. Built for Rome’s Line B extension, it was finished in nineteen ninety, yet trains did not begin regular stops until the twenty-third of June two thousand three. It had been intended for the Sistema Direzionale Orientale, a major eastern business district that never came into being.

For years, trains passed through without calling here. When the project was abandoned, the city completed the surrounding access works, public lighting, parking, and a bus turning area before opening the station. Sandro Pertini Hospital is nearby.
