Technopolis (Gazi), Athens
Technopolis (Gazi) is an industrial museum and a lively cultural venue set inside Athens’s former gasworks. The works began in 1857, and the grounds now cover about 30,000 m2. The site has operated as Technopolis since 1999, hosting exhibitions, seminars, concerts, and other cultural events.
Eight buildings carry the names of Greek poets, including Andreas Embirikos, Angelos Sikelianos, Yannis Ritsos, Kostis Palamas, Takis Papatsonis, Constantine Cavafis, and Kostas Varnalis. On the second floor of the Angelos Sikelianos building, you can find a museum devoted to Maria Callas, the renowned opera singer. The complex also keeps the memory of composer Manos Hatzidakis at its heart, which gives the venue its alternate name, Gazi Technopolis Manos Hatzidakis.
