A compact walk through the imperial old town, from St Stephen’s Cathedral along the Graben to the plague column. Descend into the Kaisergruft, the Habsburgs’ burial crypt beneath the Capuchin church, then pass one of Vienna’s oldest churches on Michaelerplatz to finish at the Hofburg.

    Michaelerkirche is the church before you, dedicated to the Archangel Michael and counted among Vienna’s oldest surviving churches.

    Pestsäule is Vienna’s Holy Trinity column, a Baroque memorial rising on the Graben after the plague epidemic of 1679.
