Old Jameson Distillery, Dublin
Old Jameson Distillery is the former Bow Street Distillery, an Irish whiskey site that now welcomes visitors just off Smithfield Square. It is the original place where Jameson Irish Whiskey was distilled until 1971, giving this attraction a direct link to Dublin’s whiskey-making story. The site began in 1780, and John Jameson expanded it after taking full ownership in 1805.
By 1886, the operation covered upwards of 5 acres and worked like a self-contained industrial world, with a smithy, cooperage, saw mills, engineering and craft workshops. Deep wells supplied its water, while cellars beneath nearby streets held whiskey as it matured. Distilling ended here in 1971; production moved to New Midleton. Today, the visitors centre offers guided tours, whiskey tastings, a bar and a gift shop.
