Guerra Junqueiro, Porto
Casa-Museu Guerra Junqueiro is a former noble residence, remade as a cultural museum honouring poet and writer Guerra Junqueiro. The house was built in seventeen thirty for Domingos Barbosa, a deacon of Porto Cathedral, and Nicolau Nasoni is named as its architect. Its baroque character belongs to the richly theatrical language of the period, made for ceremony and display.
Junqueiro, born in Freixo de Espada à Cinta in eighteen fifty, began publishing verse at fourteen and died in nineteen twenty-three. His family gave Porto the house and collection in nineteen forty, fulfilling his ambition to display objects gathered during his life. The museum holds sacred art, Viana faience, Nuremberg plates, ceramics, and furniture, and it has protected status as a Property of Public Interest.
