Sé do Porto, Porto
The tower beside you belongs to the Sé do Porto. This is Porto’s Catholic cathedral and among the city’s most ancient monuments. Its square towers are braced by buttresses and finished with cupolas, giving the façade a defensive air.
A chapel created here for Henry of Burgundy and his wife in eleven oh eight came before the present church; the cathedral’s construction then began in the later twelfth century and continued into the sixteenth. Notice the rose window set beneath a crenellated arch, alongside a porch installed in the baroque era. The building combines Romanesque, Gothic, mannerist, and baroque work—a long architectural record rather than a single design. It holds National Monument status and forms part of the World Heritage property.
