Beigel Bake, London

Beigel Bake is a bakery and shop on Brick Lane, known for baking around the clock. It began trading in 1974, and its food follows traditional Jewish bakery practice. The focus is the beigel: you can choose fillings including hot salt beef with mustard, chopped herring, or cream cheese with salmon.

The bakery produces 7,000 beigels every day, so this small food tradition operates at remarkable scale. Alongside the filled beigels, the counter offers plain and poppy-seed versions, plus onion platzel. The sweet counter features Danish pastries, apple-filled strudel, Eccles cakes, and cheesecake.

You can also find challah, a sweet Jewish bread associated with Shabbat, together with rye and other bread. The result is a shop built around a simple ring-shaped bake, with a notably broad bakery menu.
