Torre Sevilla, Seville

Torre Sevilla rises here as an office skyscraper with a distinctive elliptical profile, designed by César Pelli. Its construction began in March 2008 and finished in 2015; the tower reaches 180.5 metres and contains 40 floors. That makes it the tallest building in Andalusia and Seville, as well as Spain’s eighth tallest.

The complex stands in La Cartuja, the former site of Seville’s 1992 Universal Exposition. Look at the tower’s glass-and-concrete surface and the terracotta-coloured sunshades: they belong to a design shaped around heat and glare. Photovoltaic panels sit at the upper part, while planted roofs cover the commercial buildings beside it.

At the base, the adjoining shopping centre is formed by two lower buildings, with a pedestrian street running between them. The same complex includes CaixaForum and the Eurostars Torre Sevilla hotel, occupying upper floors of the tower. Offices began moving in during 2015, the cultural centre opened in 2017, and the shopping centre and hotel followed in 2018. From the tower, panoramic views extend across Seville.
