Sturehof, Stockholm
At Stureplan, Sturehof serves fish and shellfish in a restaurant whose story reaches back to 1897. It began under the name Malta, and adopted Sturehof in 1905. The remarkable chapter here is connected to Volvo: in August 1924, Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson met during crayfish season and agreed to pursue a Swedish car company.
Their understanding was later put into a handwritten agreement dated 16 December 1925. Sturehof has continued its focus on fish and shellfish, while becoming known for its wine list as well. The restaurant has also welcomed guests including Bill Clinton, John Bon Jovi and John Kerry. What makes this place memorable is the collision of a long-running dining tradition with the moment when an automobile company began as a conversation over crayfish.
