Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona
Spotify Camp Nou is the football stadium owned by FC Barcelona, and it has been the club’s home since its opening in 1957. The name Spotify Camp Nou has been used since the start of the 2022–2023 season through a sponsorship agreement with Spotify. Its concrete structure comes from architects Francesc Mitjans i Miró, Llorenç García-Barbón i Fernández de Henestrosa, and Josep Soteras i Mauri.
The stadium opened on the twenty-fourth of September 1957, on the feast of La Mercè, replacing the club’s former ground at Les Corts. An opening ceremony drew about 90,000 people, and the inaugural match ended with Barcelona defeating a Warsaw selection 4–2. The design is especially striking for its sweeping tiers and the large cantilevered canopy over the main stand.
That canopy projects 40 m and is suspended by trusses, while the terraces rest on perimeter columns and use reinforced concrete, a pioneering choice in Barcelona. External ramps interrupt the mass of the stadium and provide circulation to the seating areas. The ground measures 105 × 68 m, and the stadium reaches a maximum height of 48 m.
It has hosted major European finals, World Cup matches, and the football final of the 1992 Olympic Games. What you see here is both a working football venue and a powerful piece of structural engineering.
