Santissimo Sacramento al Tritone, Rome

Santissimo Sacramento al Tritone is a small oratory in Trevi, set by Piazza Poli along Via del Tritone. The building you see now was completely rebuilt in 1727. Its Baroque manner brings the elaborate drama of Rome’s seventeenth- and eighteenth-century sacred architecture to this compact façade.

The oratory began as the home of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament attached to nearby Santa Maria in Via, with construction unfolding from 1576 to 1596. Carlo Rainaldi restored it in 1681 before the later rebuilding gave it its present form. Inside, the space has a single nave.

Luigi Martinori’s nineteenth-century frescoes came from a restoration directed by Tito Armellini between 1865 and 1867. At the high altar, Francesco Trevisani painted the Holy Family.
