Restaurante Panorâmico de Monsanto, Lisbon
The Panoramic Restaurant is a circular building by Carlos Chaves da Costa, created with five floors and a 270-degree panorama. [claim] Its concrete structure was built between 1964 and 1967, and the restaurant opened in 1970. [claim] The project also included a café terrace, a viewpoint, a banqueting hall and supporting spaces, so this was designed as a broad public venue rather than merely a dining room.
[claim] After decades without regular use, the building became a municipal viewpoint. [claim] Look at the surfaces and you can connect them with the artists who shaped the interior: Manuela Madureira made a ceramic panel about Lisbon’s figures and scenes, Luís Dourdil painted a mural, Manuela Ribeiro Soares created a tile panel showing Lisbon before the 1755 earthquake, and Maria Teresa Quirino da Fonseca produced a granite relief. [claim] Events still take place here from time to time, with gatherings reaching 600 people. [claim]
