Plaža Danče, Dubrovnik
Plaža Danče is a rocky Dubrovnik beach beneath the convent complex of Saint Mary, with Gradac Park above it. It is among the city’s oldest beaches, and its clear, deep water runs slightly cooler than elsewhere. The shore opens toward the sea, so waves reach it during southerly and northwesterly winds; the beach is not recommended for children or for swimmers with limited experience.
Danče, together with the old city harbour, helped launch Dubrovnik’s water-polo story. Jug trained and competed here in its early years, then went roughly twenty years without losing a trophy while playing water polo at Danče. That sporting tradition continues through the amateur Wild League. The convent church adds another local detail: its nuns greet passing ships with bells as they travel beneath the Old Town walls.
