Park Stanisława Tołpy, Wrocław

Park Stanisława Tołpy is a landscaped city park centred on lawns, a pond and a small island, with the pond preserving part of the former Odra Ołbińska channel. Created between nineteen oh five and nineteen oh seven, it contains distinctive old beeches and North American trees. It has carried Stanisław Tołpa’s name since two thousand five.

Park Stanisława Tołpy is a landscaped city park, shaped around open lawns, a made-made rise, and a pond with its own small island. That pond is not merely decorative: it survives from the former Odra Ołbińska river channel. The park takes its present name from Stanisław Tołpa, honoured here since two thousand five.

The project began as an idea in nineteen oh two. Earthmoving started three years later, and the planting work continued until nineteen oh seven. A monument to Johannes Reinelt, who wrote under the name Philo vom Walde, was unveiled in the park’s eastern section in nineteen twelve.

This place was once called Park Nowowiejski, and also bore the German names Waschteich Park and Nordpark. Among the trees are small-leaved limes, maples, plane trees, hornbeams, willows, spruces and Turkish hazels. Some of its most remarkable specimens are more than a century old: weeping and narrowly upright beeches, alongside an Osage orange and a yellowwood, both species from North America.

In twenty eleven, the section between Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński Street and Blessed Edyta Stein Street became the separate Saint Edyta Stein Park. Throughout its history, this park has remained open rather than fenced off.
