Park Kuźniczki, Gdańsk
Park Kuźniczki is a historic garden remnant beside the Strzyża stream, now occupying 0.6 hectares. Its story reaches back to the 1500s, when a manor estate, pond and garden formed here. In 1773, Daniel Chodowiecki admired the grounds for their flower beds, winding walks, maze and outdoor theatre, along with statues representing the four temperaments, Minerva guiding a reluctant child and Venus kissing Cupid.
The estate later contracted as the nearby brewery expanded and the railway station was built. By the 1960s, neglect had left the vegetation buried in rubbish and the arbour and gates badly damaged. Recent restoration renewed the benches, paths, lighting, gate and surviving arbour, leaving this compact park as the last fragment of a much grander designed landscape.
