Park Jana Kasprowicza, Wrocław

Park Jana Kasprowicza is a neighbourhood green space between Aleja Jana Kasprowicza and the Stara Odra. Developed in 1913 and enlarged in 1927, it centres on a lawn with a solitary maple-leaved plane. Mature ash, hornbeam and spruces, an artificial ridge, and 2018 outdoor exercise stations shape the park today.

Park Jana Kasprowicza is a neighbourhood park between Aleja Jana Kasprowicza and the Stara Odra. Its present name has been official since the ninth of October 1993. The park took shape in two instalments: the eastern section opened in 1913, then the grounds stretched westward in 1927, a year before Karłowice became part of Wrocław.

The open heart of the park is the lawn, marked by a single maple-leaved plane tree. The paths lead through a deliberately loose mixture of trees rather than formal avenues. Ash is the commonest species here, including an exceptionally hefty specimen with a trunk circumference of about three metres.

Sycamore maple follows it in size, while hornbeam is especially prominent along the eastern side. Near the lawn, spruces add a contrasting evergreen presence. One small artificial ridge on the western side is the park’s only rise in level, with wooden-edged steps built into its slope.

The outdoor exercise stations along the eastern and western edges arrived through the 2018 civic-budget programme. Despite the river forming the southern boundary, there is no pond or fountain inside the park itself.
