Muzeum Inżynierii i Techniki, Kraków

Muzeum Inżynierii i Techniki is Kraków’s municipal engineering museum in historic Kazimierz, housed in the former depot of the city’s first narrow-gauge electric tram. Founded in nineteen ninety-eight, it brings together early trams, buses, motorcycles, radios, industrial machinery, and objects connected with the systems that keep a city running.

At number fifteen on Świętego Wawrzyńca Street, Muzeum Inżynierii i Techniki is Kraków’s municipal Museum of Engineering and Technology, set in historic Kazimierz. Its home is the former depot of Kraków’s first narrow-gauge electric tram. The city created the museum in nineteen ninety-eight to preserve and share the story of municipal engineering, transport, and technological change.

That mission gives the collection an unusually wide range. Across several buildings, early trams sit alongside buses and motorcycles; there are also radios, industrial machines, and objects from early manufacturing. The museum traces the infrastructure that makes a city work, including power generation, gas supply, and municipal services.

It also works with Kraków’s public transport company. The old depot is itself part of the story here: a place once built around electric tram travel now holds objects that explain how people, energy, and machinery shaped urban life. Until the eleventh of March twenty twenty-two, this institution was called the Museum of Municipal Engineering. It is a compact lesson in the mechanisms that usually remain unnoticed behind a city’s everyday routines.
