The Museum of Pharmacy of the Medical University brings you into a collection devoted to the history of pharmacy, housed on Kurzy Targ in the thirteenth-century Tenement House Under the Golden Eagle. The building now bears the name House of the Silesian Pharmacist. That name reflects an unusually long working life.

From the thirteenth century until 1951, this single address contained both a pharmacy and the pharmacist’s home. For centuries, the person preparing and dispensing medicines did not simply work here: this was also where that person lived. The building links the practical side of healthcare with the private world behind it.

The museum itself began in November 2011, returning the subject of pharmacy to a house with a deep connection to the profession. Take in the old building on Kurzy Targ and picture its long sequence of residents: generations of pharmacists sharing their home with their workplace, followed by a museum that preserves the story of their field. Here, the setting is part of the history: the address has been associated with pharmacy from the Middle Ages into the present day.
