Molo w Brzeźnie, Gdańsk
Molo w Brzeźnie is a wooden pier extending from the Brzeźno shore into the bay. As you walk along the promenade, the structure carries the avenue named for Pope John Paul II out over the water. The present pier measures 136 metres in length and 7.2 metres across, with a further 126 metres planned.
Its history reaches back to 1900, when an earlier pier began as an extension of Zdrojowa Street. Between the wars, that structure grew to 250 metres before it was removed. The pier you see today was built between 1993 and 1996, and opened to walkers on 19 July 1996.
Brzeźno was already a bathing resort in 1804: Major Ernst von Zieten rented rooms and offered baths using heated seawater. A spa house with 40 rooms followed in 1833.
