Miradouro Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Lisbon
This is Miradouro Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, a Lisbon viewpoint beside the church of the Graça Convent. The terrace occupies the former church forecourt, giving this open space a strong connection to the religious complex behind it. The place was formerly called Miradouro da Graça, and it is now dedicated to Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, a poet.
Its current place designation dates from 2008. From here, the view spreads across Lisbon’s roofs and buildings; the panorama is less dramatic than the castle view, but this remains a popular place. Behind the viewpoint stands the Augustinian monastery, founded in 1271 and rebuilt after the earthquake. Take in the broad terrace and the layered cityscape it opens across.
