Miradouro de Santa Luzia, Lisbon
Miradouro de Santa Luzia is a Lisbon viewpoint, with a broad outlook over Alfama and the Tagus. From this terrace, you can trace a distinctive sequence of landmarks: the dome of Santa Engrácia, Santo Estêvão Church, and the paired white towers of São Miguel Church. Along the southern wall, modern azulejo panels bring historical scenes into the setting.
One depicts Praça do Comércio before the earthquake; another shows Christians attacking São Jorge Castle. António Quaresma designed them, and the Viúva Lamego factory produced them. The Church of Santa Luzia and São Brás also stands here.
It serves as the national headquarters of the Portuguese assembly of the Knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, and was once the head of an old São Brás commandery in Lisbon’s territory. The view and the panels give this lookout its distinctive character.
