Mercat de Russafa, Valencia
Mercat de Russafa is a municipal market and a defining landmark of the Russafa neighbourhood. Francisco Javier Goerlich Lleó and Julio Bellot Senent are its architects, and the building was conceived and completed in 1957. Work began in late May 1957, while its official inauguration took place in June 1962.
Its four façades use different colours arranged as graduated palettes, added during rehabilitation in the mid-2000s. The market now provides 4780 m² and 160 stalls, with food shops and a bar inside. It is the second-largest market in the Valencian Community, after Valencia’s Central Market. The building’s long life is easy to read here: an active municipal food market, shaped by a postwar project and later refreshed through colour.
