LX Factory, Lisbon

LX Factory is a commercial and artistic space in Lisbon, occupying Alcântara’s former industrial area. Its story reaches back to 1846, when Companhia de Fiação e Tecidos Lisbonense established one of Lisbon’s important factory complexes there. In later years, the site also accommodated a printing company and two graphic enterprises.

In 2005, the real-estate company Mainsite acquired and revitalized it; the place reopened in 2008 as a setting for creativity and experiences. The industrial spaces were retained, while arts businesses brought in shops, cafés, and restaurants. Today, about 50 varied shops make LX Factory a destination for browsing, eating, and meeting amid an industrial atmosphere. The site’s character comes from that combination: working history preserved as a backdrop for creative businesses and everyday visits.
