Ljetnikovac Sorkočević, Dubrovnik
Ljetnikovac Sorkočević is a villa in Lapad, built in the Gothic-Renaissance tradition and oriented toward a view of Gruž Bay. Petar Sorkočević commissioned this retreat in 1521. Its single-storey design places a salon at the heart of the house, with four rooms around it.
The property is enclosed by a wall and garden, where a seawater fishpond and a small boat landing once supported its leisurely life. This was a setting for dances, theatre performances, and literary gatherings. Look for the Sorkočević family coat of arms and Petar’s initials, “P.
S.”, carved into the building. In the chapel of the Holy Cross, in the rear garden, you can find a statue of Saint Blaise by Juraj Dalmatinac. The villa now houses the Institute for Historical Sciences of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Dubrovnik.
