Kościół Świętego Stanisława Kostki, Wrocław

Kościół Świętego Stanisława Kostki is a contemporary two-level church on Hubska Street in Huby, designed by Stefan Müller. Its site held a Methodist chapel from nineteen thirty-seven before becoming Catholic in nineteen forty-five. Completed through the late twentieth century, it has hosted the Summer Festival of Sacred Music since two thousand ten.

Kościół Świętego Stanisława Kostki is the modern, two-level church before you on Hubska Street in Huby. It bears the name of Stanisław Kostka, and Stefan Müller was its architect. As you take in the building’s broad contemporary form, its history reveals an earlier congregation on this same plot.

A Methodist Evangelical Community chapel once stood here. Building began in nineteen thirty-seven, and its foundation stone was laid on the sixth of June during a service led by Pastor Max Herrenkind. The chapel, called Christ Church, was dedicated that November and survived the war.

On the ninth of July nineteen forty-five, the Soviet city commandant assigned it to the Roman Catholic Church. Work on today’s two-level church started in September nineteen eighty-four. The lower church became usable for worship in nineteen eighty-seven; later came the choir, chapels, sacristy, and a twenty-two-metre tower.

Zinc sheeting covered the church complex in nineteen ninety-seven, and glazing followed in two thousand. Archbishop Marian Gołębiewski consecrated the completed church on the seventeenth of September two thousand six. Since two thousand ten, it has hosted the Summer Festival of Sacred Music, founded by organist Paweł Ożga.
