Kamienica Pod Jagnięciem, Kraków
Kamienica Pod Jagnięciem is a historic townhouse at Main Market Square twenty-eight in Kraków’s Old Town. Its structure dates from around fifteen hundred, and its rooms retain late-Gothic and Renaissance portals. A violent episode unfolded at its threshold: in fifteen thirty-seven, Bartolomeo Berrecci was murdered here.
The building passed through Italian ownership, including the Cellarich and Gucci families, before the Potockis became owners in eighteen seventy-four. They remodelled it in the manner of Gdańsk townhouses with Mannerist styling and gave it its present name. It entered the heritage register on the thirteenth of May, nineteen eighty-six. Notice the portal work: these surviving carved entrances make the house’s long history feel close at hand.
