Kamienica Pinocińska, Kraków

Kamienica Pinocińska is the historic townhouse at Main Market Square fifteen, in Kraków’s Old Town. Its name recalls the Italian Pinocci family, who owned it during the seventeenth century, although a house already stood here in medieval times. Notice the portal shaped as a Baroque arcade: it makes the entrance feel like a small architectural scene set into the façade.

Inside, Renaissance timber ceilings survived Kraków’s fire of eighteen fifty. Later, the house was combined with the adjoining properties to create the Wierzynek restaurant; it now also contains Tradycyja. The building entered the heritage register on the thirteenth of March nineteen sixty-eight. That long survival gives this address a layered life: medieval origins, a family name from Italy, and interiors that escaped a citywide disaster.
