Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona
Fundació Joan Miró is a cultural institution devoted to preserving Joan Miró’s work, housed in a building created through collaboration between the artist and architect Josep Lluís Sert i López. Its rationalist architecture includes Mediterranean touches and is integrated into the Montjuïc landscape. Inside, the collection brings together paintings, sculptures and tapestries, with more than 104,000 pieces drawn from Miró’s initial donation and later gifts and deposits.
This makes the foundation a remarkably extensive home for his work. The building itself is part of the experience: clear forms, open spaces and a strong relationship with the surrounding landscape give the museum an atmosphere of artistic independence and modernity. The foundation is recognised as a cultural heritage site of national interest, and its purpose remains direct: to preserve and present Joan Miró’s art in the place designed for it.
