Földalatti Vasúti Múzeum, Budapest

Földalatti Vasúti Múzeum is a museum display beneath Deák Ferenc tér, reached through the pedestrian underpass. It occupies a disused tunnel section from the former Deák tér station, preserved rather than filled in after the railway route was altered. Inside, three historic railway cars stand beside the original platform.

Car 19 has a wooden body restored to its 1896 appearance, while car 1 is a metal-bodied vehicle preserved as it was withdrawn in 1973; a trailer completes the display. Across from the cars, cases present plans, maps, photographs, models and the construction diary in a chronological account of the line. At the entrance, the name Gizella tér survives in its original Zsolnay ceramic tiles. A marble plaque records Emperor Franz Joseph’s ride on 8 May 1896, when he permitted the line to bear his name.
