EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, Dublin
EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum is a privately owned museum in the vaults of Dublin’s CHQ Building, where the exhibition traces Irish emigration and the worldwide diaspora. Its setting is a bonded customs warehouse built in 1820 by John Rennie and completed by Thomas Telford; the building was restored in the early 2000s. Event Communications, a London design firm, created the museum, which opened in 2016.
Inside, twenty themed galleries follow four linked ideas: Migration, Motivation, Influence and Diaspora Today. The Migration section reaches back to Irish movement from 500AD and explores missionary work, famine, persecution, forced transportation and overseas conflicts. Video testimonies from six Irish emigrants give those broad patterns individual voices. EPIC won Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
