Domek Romański, Wrocław

Domek Romański is a small historic building at Bishop Nankier’s Square, known as the former House of the Ladies of Trzebnica. Its early-Gothic structure, dating from the beginning of the 13th century, combines Romanesque arches with Gothic window and vault details. The Cistercians of Trzebnica used it as their local centre, and the monastery once owned nearby market stalls along Kotlarska Street.

The building was partly rebuilt after the Second World War. Its entrance now lies below street level because the surrounding ground gradually rose over the centuries. Inside, surviving barrel-vault fragments share the lower storey with cross vaults above.

The glazed building now houses Foto-Gen Gallery, devoted to photography and new media. A plaque on the façade recalls its Cistercian foundation and the historic House of the Ladies of Trzebnica.
