Dom Marina Držića, Dubrovnik
Dom Marina Držića is Dubrovnik’s smallest museum, devoted to the life and work of Marin Držić, a major Croatian comic playwright. You’ll find it at Široka ulica 7, beside Domino Church, in a building raised after the earthquake of 1667. The institution began in 1989 and combines a theatre museum, a research and documentation institute, and an exhibition space.
Its permanent display turns Držić’s biography into a journey through the building: dates from 1508 to 1567 run along the staircase, alongside a family tree, letters connected with his conspiracy, and costumes evoking characters from his plays. The collection also includes portraits by contemporary painters, small sculptures, and applied-art objects. This compact museum connects the author’s life with the theatrical world his writing created.
