Dolnośląska Biblioteka Publiczna, named for Tadeusz Mikulski, is Wrocław’s leading public-library institution in the Lower Silesian network. Founded through libraries established in nineteen forty-five and nineteen forty-seven, it now combines major book and special collections with multilingual departments, accessibility services, and the annual Silesiana regional book fair.

Dolnośląska Biblioteka Publiczna is Wrocław’s public library named for Tadeusz Mikulski, and it is the largest institution promoting books and reading in Lower Silesia’s public-library network. Its story begins in the autumn of nineteen forty-five, when it opened as the Municipal Public Library; a provincial library followed in nineteen forty-seven, and the two were brought together in nineteen fifty-five. In nineteen seventy-eight it gained the rank of a research library.

The present name arrived in February two thousand six, emphasizing its close ties with the region. Inside, this is a vast working collection: more than four hundred and fifty thousand books, alongside current periodicals, archived journal volumes, and special materials ranging from recordings and films to photographs, posters, and leaflets. The library supports readers across Wrocław and the whole voivodeship, while providing professional guidance to six hundred and eighty public libraries in Lower Silesia.

Its specialist spaces include German, American, Romance-language, and Korean libraries, as well as audio collections and services for children, blind readers, and people with dyslexia. Since two thousand ten, it has also hosted Silesiana, a regional book fair that brings smaller Lower Silesian publishers together with readers through author meetings, exhibitions, and competitions.
