Crkva sv. Vlaha, Dubrovnik
This is the Church of St. Blaise, a Catholic church in Dubrovnik shaped by Baroque architecture and designed by Marino Groppelli. The present building dates from 1715, replacing an earlier church that burned in 1706.
Its façade presents Corinthian columns, a curved gable, and statues of Saint Blaise, Faith, and Hope. Inside, the main altar holds a fifteenth-century statue made of gilt silver by an unknown local master. Saint Blaise carries a model of the earlier church, and that survivor of the fire is the most remarkable object here.
The church also preserves relics of Saint Silvan. Its organ was built in 1906 by the German workshop Gebrüder Rieger, and restoration is scheduled to begin in 2026. Saint Blaise is Dubrovnik’s patron, so this church remains closely tied to the city’s identity and annual religious celebration.
