Columbo, Budapest
Columbo is a life-sized bronze statue showing Peter Falk in his famous television role as the fictional detective. At the statue’s feet, you can see Dog, the detective’s companion, represented as a separate figure. Sculptor Géza Dezső Fekete created both works, and they were installed in 2014 through a state-sponsored urban renewal project.
The setting adds a curious Budapest connection: Falk Miksa Street commemorates a Hungarian politician, while Peter Falk also had Hungarian ancestors through his mother’s family. Despite that shared surname and Jewish background, the actor and Miksa Falk were not related. The figures turn a television character into a small public scene: the detective above, his dog gathered at his feet, and both rendered at life size in bronze.
