Chiesa del Santissimo Sacramento a Tor de' Schiavi, Roma

At Largo Agosta, the church before you is Santissimo Sacramento a Tor de’ Schiavi, the parish for the Prenestino-Labicano district. Dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament, it also holds a cardinal-priest title. Francesco Fornari designed this building, raised between nineteen sixty-six and nineteen sixty-eight; Cardinal Angelo Dell’Acqua blessed it when it opened in May of that latter year.

Take in the broad porch and the round window set into the façade. Its Neo-Romanesque manner revives the rounded-arch character of medieval Romanesque churches, while bands of differing hues divide the exterior. The doorways are covered with metal panels showing scenes from the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Gospels.

Inside, Antonio Cisterna’s painting shows angels adoring Christ. Francis, Paul the Sixth, and John Paul the Second have each come here as pope.
