Basilica Costantiniana, Rome
Basilica Costantiniana is the name of this stop. Rome is Italy’s capital and also leads Lazio and its metropolitan city. According to tradition, Romulus founded Rome in antiquity, while settlement near the Lapis Niger existed roughly two centuries earlier.
Latin began here, and Rome later governed an empire across the Mediterranean and much of Europe. It subsequently became the seat of papal temporal power, then the Italian kingdom’s capital, and now the republic’s capital. Within the Aurelian Walls, the historic core brings together traces of nearly three millennia, with UNESCO recognition shared with Holy See properties.
Rome also encloses Vatican City, an entire sovereign state. No other city in the world contains a whole state within its bounds.
