Bar Basso, Milan
Bar Basso is a Milan bar at via Plinio 39, known for the creation of the Negroni sbagliato. It opened in 1933 as an osteria and returned at this address in 1947. In 1967, Venetian barmen Renato Hausamann and Mirko Stocchetto acquired the venue.
The famous cocktail emerged in 1972 when Stocchetto accidentally poured brut sparkling wine instead of gin into a Negroni. That mistake became the house’s signature drink. Bar Basso also introduced Mangia e bevi in 1968, a rich combination of ice cream, cream, liqueurs, cherry brandy and strawberries.
Musicians, artists and designers made the bar a meeting place, and during Milan’s international furniture fair it became a gathering point for the event’s participants. Its design details, from cocktail glasses to exterior signs, are part of its identity.
