Zwack Látogatóközpont, Budapest

Zwack Látogatóközpont is the visitor centre of the historic Zwack distillery, now operating as Unicum Ház. Its story begins with József Zwack, who opened a liqueur business in Pest in 1840, although another documented date is 1847. The company’s signature Unicum bitter liqueur received patent protection in 1883.

By 1892, the growing business had moved to its riverside site on Soroksári út, where production still takes place. The company endured wartime destruction, nationalisation in 1948, and the separation of the Zwack family from its Hungarian factory. After the political transition, Péter Zwack returned, helped establish the modern company, and in 1991 completed its privatisation. The centre connects this working industrial site with the long, disrupted, and ultimately renewed history of Unicum.
