Prague Zoo, Prague

Prague Zoo occupies the varied ground of Troja and has welcomed visitors since the twenty-eighth of September nineteen thirty-one. Its landscape allows animal homes to be shaped more like the environments where their species live. The zoo is internationally known for breeding Przewalski’s horses and, since twenty eleven, returning them to Mongolia through its Return of Wild Horses project.

In October twenty twenty-one, that work brought the zoo the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums Conservation Award, its highest honour, granted for only the sixth time. The grounds also carry the memory of the devastating August two thousand two flood, which submerged much of the zoo and killed one hundred thirty-four animals. A wave of public support and donations helped the zoo flourish during the decade that followed.
