Søpavillonen, Copenhagen
Søpavillonen is a historic pavilion beside Copenhagen’s Lakes, with a story that begins on the ice. The building stands on the embankment separating Peblinge Lake from Sankt Jørgens Lake, and it was completed in 1895 from a design by Vilhelm Dahlerup. Its original users were members of the Copenhagen Ice Skating Club, who had skated on the Lakes since the club began in 1870.
Later, the building became associated with food, clubs, and entertainment: restaurateur Oscar Davidsen acquired it in 1965, and it eventually became a venue for music and nightlife. Today, the house operates under its Danish name as a nightclub, alongside the Babylon restaurant. Copenhageners also use the striking nickname “klamydiaslottet,” or “the clamydia castle.”
