Riegrovy sady, Prague

Riegrovy sady is a city park spread across broad lawns, with paths following the shape of the ground and smaller secluded corners among the planting. Its creation belongs to garden director Leopold Batěk, who established the park between 1904 and 1908. The park covers about 11 hectares and is known for an expansive view across Prague.

It takes its name from the Czech lawyer and politician František Ladislav Rieger. In the southwestern part, a bronze monument presents Rieger above a granite pedestal, with a heraldic lion and his motto at his foot. Elsewhere, the surviving fragment of the former Kanálka garden is a three-sided sandstone obelisk, traditionally called the Bird Obelisk. This park also includes children’s play areas and sports grounds, so its open landscape combines quiet planting with active public use.
