Pomnik Armii Krajowej, Sopot

This is the Sopot monument to soldiers of the Home Army who died in combat or were murdered. Set in the park dedicated to the medic Inka, it presents a sculpture by Tadeusz Markiewicz on a pedestal made by Leon Czerwiński. The monument was erected in 1998 beside Armii Krajowej Avenue, opposite the University of Gdańsk’s Faculty of Management, between 1 Maja and Władysława Sikorskiego streets.

Look at the sculpture itself and the solid pedestal beneath it: their distinct forms belong to different makers. Nearby stands a more modest monument to Danuta Siedzikówna, known by the alias Inka, linking this memorial setting with the park’s dedication. Its subject is the fallen and murdered members of a specific Polish underground army.
