Pałacyk Śleszyńskich, Warsaw

Pałacyk Śleszyńskich is a historic palace on Aleje Ujazdowskie twenty-five in Śródmieście. Notice the grand portico capped by a triangular pediment, the feature that gives this compact façade its ceremonial air. It was built in eighteen twenty-six for Stanisław Śleszyński, a captain in the sappers, and his wife Gertruda Emilia.

Śleszyński also created the idea for nearby Dolina Szwajcarska. Antonio Corazzi designed the house in classicism, an architectural manner that draws on the balanced forms of ancient Greece and Rome. War devastated the building, and Helena and Szymon Syrkus restored it after the conflict.

It later accommodated the Yugoslav embassy and then Serbia’s embassy. The palace is protected as a regional immovable monument.
