Latarnia Morska Sopot, Sopot

Here, the Sopot Lighthouse rises from the Balneological Institute complex as a navigation mark on Poland’s Baltic coast. Its narrow tower gives a spa building an unexpected seafaring role, joining the world of treatment and promenade with the needs of vessels offshore. The structure was built during nineteen-oh-three and nineteen-oh-four as part of the institute itself.

That shared origin is the key to its character: this is not a remote beacon on a headland, but a maritime signal woven into Sopot’s resort architecture. The light’s reach was cut to seven nautical miles, roughly thirteen kilometres, and the reduction in February nineteen ninety-nine meant it no longer satisfied the formal definition of a lighthouse. The name has remained, though, and it still makes perfect sense when you see this tower shaping the local skyline.

The tower, with its navigational light, is accessible to visitors as an observation point. From there, the view links the resort town with the Baltic water that gave this place its purpose.
