Kubistická lampa, Prague

That angular street lamp is Kubistická lampa, an artwork by Czech architect Emil Králíček, created in 1913. It stands at Jungmann Square beside the cemetery gate behind Our Lady of the Snows Church. Its shaft is built from stacked, truncated pyramid forms, with shallow grooves alternating with smooth triangular planes.

The metal-and-glass lantern continues the same sharply geometric language. Králíček designed the lamp as part of the Adam Pharmacy complex, built from 1911 to 1913; the pharmacy’s principal frontage opens onto Wenceslas Square, while this lamp belongs to its rear frontage at Jungmann Square. Look at the shaft’s repeated angular sections: this compact structure is recognised as an icon of architectural Cubism in the Czech Republic, and it is protected as a cultural monument.
