Kościół Wniebowstąpienia Pańskiego, Warszawa

Kościół Wniebowstąpienia Pańskiego is a Lutheran church, dedicated to the Ascension of Christ. Built from nineteen oh two to nineteen oh four, it began as an Orthodox garrison church for Saints Peter and Paul. Notice the entrance façade, where the solid, compact mass gives the building a distinctly military character.

Its Neo-Russian manner draws on Russian historic forms, though much of its Orthodox visual identity was removed during a major remodelling between nineteen thirty-one and nineteen thirty-four. The building became Lutheran property in nineteen twenty. It was devastated during the Second World War, then rebuilt in the years after liberation through public contributions, state support, and donations from worshippers. Teodor Bursche and Edgar Aleksander Norwerth are the architects associated with this church.
