Saint Barbara’s Church is the parish church before you, dedicated to Barbara of Nicomedia. Its main body is Gothic, a medieval building tradition shaped by pointed forms and solid masonry, while the church is protected as a historic monument. The story begins with care for the sick: in the year 1387, a hospital for people with infectious illnesses and a chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara stood by Długie Ogrody, beyond the city limits. The chapel was rebuilt and then became a parish church in the year 1456, with a parish school alongside it. Fire repeatedly damaged the church, and rebuilding brought structural supports to its walls.

From the later part of the sixteenth century until the end of the war in 1945, this was a Protestant church. The war left its roofs, much of the tower, and many vaults destroyed. Restoration began in the nineteen fifties, and the Catholic Church took it over soon afterward. The rebuilt church has modern stained glass designed by Gdańsk artist Barbara Massalska, as well as historic sculptures transferred from the National Museum in Gdańsk.
