Københavns Rådhus, Copenhagen

Københavns Rådhus is Copenhagen’s working city hall, housing the municipal council headquarters and the Lord Mayor’s office. Its richly ornamented front gives the building a ceremonial presence, while the slim clock tower rises to 105.6 metres, making it one of Copenhagen’s tallest buildings. Just above the balcony, a gilded statue of Absalon adds a distinct focal point.

The building is the sixth city hall in Copenhagen and was designed by Martin Nyrop. Construction ran from 1892 to 1905, and the building opened on 12 September 1905. Its architectural style is Art Nouveau.

Inside, you can also find Jens Olsen’s World Clock, alongside the ordinary tower clock. The building’s scale and ornament make it feel far more like a civic landmark than a plain administrative office.
